Why does change suck so much sometimes?

Don’t get me wrong, change can be good. But it usually comes with some amount of downside, even if you can’t immediately see it.
2018 was, quite simply, a pretty terrible year for me personally. I struggled with a lot of stuff, and felt like Frodo Baggins carrying the ring to Mordor on more than one occasion.
